When selling your antiques the following options need to be considered:

Selling to a friend

What a lovely idea! It's nice to know your antiques are in good hands but without a proper idea of its true market value you might not be getting the best price.

Selling through the local paper

An advert in the local paper can achieve a good response. It can become time consuming, dealing with enquiry phone calls and with unknown people to view the articles for sale, presenting something of a security risk.

Selling at Auction

This is often perceived as being a good option, to ensure your antiques fetch a fair market value. However, there are serious charges involved. When selling through any of the main auction houses, the commissions involved are not always apparent. For example, if you sell an item for about £1000 you can be charged 15% vendors commission + VAT + 1% insurance + transport and any photographic costs. For a hammer price of £1000 you might get a cheque of only £700. Meanwhile, the purchaser will pay £1175 which includes a further 15% buyer's premium and VAT. A Staggering 40% can be lost in charges. Since most purchases at auction are made by the trade why not avoid charges and sell direct? In any event after weeks of waiting the item may not even sell.

Selling to Dodge & Son (or other dealers)

Selling to us could not be simpler. If we are interested in your items we purchase immediately, if not we can often recommend other dealers. When buying privately, we will offer a price comparative to that which we would pay at auction. We buy furniture from both trade and private sellers, in any condition as we have our own restoration workshops. We also consider part exchange purchases. If Dodge & Son buy your antiques, we make payment THE SAME DAY, we will then collect the goods at no cost to you.

If you have any furniture for sale please email us today or telephone direct on 01935 815151
